The Dusseldorfer Burger (“Düsselburger”)

The classic Dusseldorfer burger recipe, or "Düsselburger" how it is called in the Rhineland

Ingredients

  • 8 Potato pancakes
  • 8 slices of black pudding or Pannas (sliced into the same thickness as the potato pancakes)
  • 8 slices of bacon
  • 2 medium onions, sliced into rings
  • Some stewed beet and cabbage
  • Some fresh marjoram
  • Some vegetable oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Dry the bacon using a paper towel and fry until crispy.
  2. Remove the bacon and using the same pan, fry the onion rings until brown.
  3. Sprinkle the black pudding or Pannas with flour and fry in plenty of vegetable oil.
  4. Fry the potato pancakes.

Serving suggestion

  • Place one of the potato pancakes on a plate and top with the black pudding or Pannas.
  • Add some beet cabbage between the two slices of Pannas and then top with  the second potato pancake.
  • Place the crispy bacon and onion rings on top of the 'Dusseldorfer Burger' and serve immediately.
